International Conference on Applied Forensic Psychology in Crime & Delinquency

About Conference:

The Department of Counseling Psychology, University of Madras, Chennai, India in close collaboration with International Institute for Forensic & Security Studies, Lucknow, India & Dr. M.G.R Janaki College of Arts & Science for Women, Chennai, India invites registrations for the International Conference on Applied Forensic Psychology in Crime & Delinquency, to be jontly organized by the above three institutions from Friday-March 31, 2023 to Saturday-April 01, 2023, with pre & post conference events falling on Thursday-March 30, 2023 & Sunday-April 02, 2023, respectively.

Forensic Psychology or use of the field of psychology for crime investigation purposes has been recognized as a field around the world since 19th Century when it was first used by Wilhelm Wundt - also known as the 'Father of Psychology' in 1879 at his first forensic psychology lab in Germany. Followed by various other scientists in the 19th and 20th Century who explored the use of psychology in legal system, psychology of eyewitness testimony, assessment tools, psychology of intelligence and so on. In India the first use of forensic psychology was at Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Central Bureau of Investigation, New Delhi after they setup the country's first Polygraph / Lie Detector Lab in 1968. So far forensic psychology has been widely used across the globe in cases of crimes related to adults but there are researches about its potential use in the cases of children & adolescents in conflict with law.

This conference explores the very important field of forensic psychology and its application to cases of juvenile delinquency together with usual criminal investigations. Interestingly it is also known that the very first use of clinical forensic psychology was done by William Healy’s Chicago Juvenile Psychopathic Institute in the U.S. for the treatment of delinquent juveniles also around the 20th Century. The conference would shed light on almost all important and extensively used forensic psychological techniques, tools and technologies through a combination of keynote lectures, invited talks, panel discussions, workshops, seminars and poster presentations, spreading awareness about this very important field of forensic psychology and discussing its less explored possible use in investigating children in conflict with law and bringing them to justice, including supporting the criminal and juvenile justice system in better understanding criminal and juvenile psychology. This international on-ground and online event is expected to see speakers from over 05 countries and various States across India, and to be attended by approximately 500+ attendees worldwide. Please come join us at this two days long educational journey overseeing exchange of knowledge, thoughts and ideas, and taking forensic psychology application to that next level in India and around the globe.
